A.M. BEST AFFIRMS SGI CANADA'S EXCELLENT RATING

Released on October 12, 2005

A.M. Best, a major international insurance company rating agency, has confirmed the financial strength of SGI CANADA with an A- (excellent) rating.

"We are very pleased with this independent confirmation that we're on the right track," Minister responsible for SGI Maynard Sonntag said. "We operate in difficult markets just like other insurance companies and we are very proud to receive some of the best ratings in the insurance industry."

Ratings for SGI CANADA's subsidiaries, SGI CANADA Insurance Services Ltd. (SCISL) and the Insurance Company of Prince Edward Island (ICPEI), remained at B+ (very good). The A.M. Best rating outlook for SGI CANADA is stable; the outlook for both SCISL and ICPEI has been upgraded to positive. SGI CANADA's other subsidiary, Coachman Insurance Company in Ontario was given a B- (fair) rating. Their outlook for Coachman has been upgraded to stable.

"A.M. Best acknowledged SGI CANADA's initiatives to reduce its concentration of risk by diversifying its product line in Ontario," Sonntag said. "A.M. Best also favourably viewed SGI CANADA's efforts to diversify its book of business and reduce the company's concentration of risk in Saskatchewan by expanding into other provinces."
