Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty accepted the official portrait of former Premier Roy Romanow into the Legislative Building Art Collection today.The portrait was unveiled by Mr. Romanow at a ceremony held in the Legislative Building. The painting, by Zhong-Yang Huang of Regina, will hang in the Saskatchewan Gallery. The Gallery features the portraits of Saskatchewan premiers commissioned by various governments since the establishment of the province in 1905.
"It is important to recognize and honour our former premiers and the vital role they played in helping to shape this province," Beatty said. "As Premier, Mr. Romanow contributed to Saskatchewan's proud and vibrant character."
Roy Romanow served as Saskatchewan's 13th Premier from 1991 until he retired from politics in 2001.
The Lieutenant Governor presented Centennial Medals to Mr. and Mrs. Romanow and Zhong-Yang Huang.
