The provincial government is moving forward with legislation that will mean changes for Western Development Museum Board members."This legislation will help to strengthen the Western Development Museum's Board and improve Board continuity," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said.
Changes to existing provisions include increasing the length of office from one to three years and abolishing the current cap on the number of consecutive years a Board member can serve.
The mission of the Western Development Museum is to preserve and promote an understanding of the economic and cultural development of Western Canada, with an emphasis on Saskatchewan.
The Western Development Museum has four branches in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, North Battleford and Yorkton, served by more than 900 volunteers who contribute in excess of 50,000 hours per year. It also has a large curatorial centre in Saskatoon.
The Western Development Museum is physically the largest museum in Canada. Total attendance ranges between 150,000 and 200,000 per year.
The Museum's board of directors currently consists of eight members from across Saskatchewan.
