MURAL RESTORATION COMPLETE

Released on November 14, 2005

The Lehman mural at the Legislative Building has been successfully restored.

"I am very pleased with the results of this restoration project," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said. "This mural is a historical mainstay of the Legislature, and can now be enjoyed by everyone in its newly refurbished state."

Professional art conservators Tara Fraser and Sarah Spafford-Ricci restored the mural in September and October of this year, and were each awarded the Centennial Medal in recognition of their work.

Painted in 1933, the mural had experienced water and other kinds of damage associated with its age. The cost of the restoration was about $50,000.

The Lehman mural is located in the Rotunda of the Legislature and is open for public viewing.
