Saskatchewan residents are encouraged to reflect upon the many sacrifices made by veterans as the province observes Veterans Week, November 5th to 11th, 2005.

"Throughout this week we ask that people take time to remember and to teach others what the contributions by the veterans mean to us," Culture, Youth and Recreation Minister Joan Beatty said. "They have sacrificed, provided and died for this great country so that we may live the lives we do today."

The annual Remembrance Service at the Legislative Building will be held on November 10th, 2005. This service is especially important this year as it is the Year of the Veteran as well as the 60th anniversary of the Second World War.

"By taking a moment to bow our heads and remember we ensure the legacy lives on," Beatty said. "It is a small price to pay for what we have received."

The first Remembrance Day was held in 1919, commemorating the end of WWI on Monday, November 11th, 1918. Today, services of remembrance are held in cities and towns throughout the world.
