CENTENNIAL PARK PASSPORT CONTEST WINNERS

Released on November 2, 2005

Saskatchewan Environment has drawn the names of 66 winners in the Centennial Park Passport Contest. A total of $13,000 in cash and prizes is being awarded in six different categories.

"Our provincial parks hosted many successful centennial celebrations and activities throughout the parks system this summer, and I was delighted to take part in many of them," Environment Minister David Forbes said. "I have seen first-hand the appreciation park visitors have for our provincial parks system and I congratulate all of the winners of the passport contest."

The top seven winners are: Veronica Davidson, Saskatoon - $2,000 cash and RV accessories; Shana Lacey, Regina - $1,000 cash and RV accessories; Ruth Armstrong, Regina - $500 gift certificate from Holiday Homes RV in Moose Jaw and RV accessories; Alan Hammond, Regina - $1,000 cash; Bob Kimpton, Regina – Subaru SUV for a week and a camping package; Doreen and Jerry Crawford, Porcupine Plain - $1,000 in CAA Saskatchewan gift certificates, camping accessories and a 2006 annual park entry permit; and Lois Wiebe, Olds, Alberta - $1,750 Houseboat Holiday Package, Eagle Point Resort in La Ronge.

The Saskatchewan Park Passport Contest was launched as part of the province's centennial celebrations and ran from May 1st to September 15th. There were 822 contest entries, of which 83 were from the out-of-province category. All park visitors had to do was visit a participating provincial park, CAA office or RV dealership and have their passport stamped and enter for a chance to win.

"I am pleased so many people took part in the passport contest," Forbes said. "The passport contest promoted travel around the province, not only to provincial parks but also to communities and businesses en route."

Preliminary figures show that park use is up by approximately 10 per cent from last year.

The contest was made possible with generous donations from several sponsors: Saskatchewan Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association, CAA Saskatchewan, Tourism Saskatchewan, Elite Motors Subaru - Saskatoon, Federated Co-operatives Ltd, Eagle Point Resort – La Ronge and many park commercial operators and adjacent park businesses.
