MADE-IN-SASKATCHEWAN CENTENNIAL CONCERT TOUR FOR PROVINCE'S YOUTH IS LAUNCHED

Released on March 17, 2005

The sound of music will be alive over the province's hills, valleys, prairies and forests this summer as the Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Concert Tour takes centre stage in communities throughout the province.

"Saskatchewan has scores of talent and the centennial year provides us with the perfect opportunity to showcase those artists," Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Chair Glenn Hagel said. "The concert tour will also demonstrate to up-and-coming singers, musicians and other artists that they can pursue their dreams right here at home."

The concert tour is aimed at Saskatchewan's youth who have indicated a desire to celebrate the centennial through music and song. The tour will travel to approximately 10 communities. The communities will be selected based upon their size, whether they are centrally located within a geographic region, their ability to attract young people to the event and whether they have the facilities and volunteers necessary to stage a concert.

"We're honoured to work with Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 to showcase Saskatchewan music as part of our 100th anniversary celebrations," Saskatchewan Recording Industry Association Executive Director Noreen Neu said. "I invite Saskatchewan young people and visitors to join us in celebrating this very special occasion and share in a unique musical experience that spotlights the incredible talent that this province has to offer."

There will be no cost to attend the concerts, featuring up to five Saskatchewan artists at each stop. Host communities will be consulted regarding the musical interests of young people in their area and each of the concerts will be developed with those interests in mind.

"In addition to providing a memorable centennial experience to the province's young people, the tour will result in positive economic benefits to the host communities, who will be welcoming visitors from their regions to the concerts," Hagel said.

Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 will provide up to $200,000 to support the concert tour, which will run from June 15th, 2005, to September 15th, 2005. The Saskatchewan Recording Industry Association (SRIA) is administering the program on behalf of Saskatchewan Centennial 2005. Artists and communities interested in participating in the Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Concert Tour should contact SRIA at 1-800-347-0676 or info@saskrecording.ca.
