SaskPower is recognizing a valued supplier by presenting it with a Power of Business Award. Minister responsible for SaskPower, Frank Quennell, presented an award to Stewart Steel Inc. at the company's operations in Weyburn. The firm is a steel fabricator for the agricultural and industrial marketplaces."It is fitting that Stewart Steel receives this award, and in our province's Centennial Year," Quennell said. "The company and its employees reflect the strong values, willingness to work together and ability to dream big that characterizes the people of this province."
"Stewart Steel exemplifies the ingenuity and dedication that is typical of the approximately 5,000 Saskatchewan suppliers to the corporation last year," SaskPower Vice-President, Power Production, Garner Mitchell said. "Inventiveness and co-operative spirit in private businesses throughout the province assist SaskPower in fulfilling its mission, to deliver power in a safe, reliable, cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner."
Stewart Steel has worked with SaskPower to provide some longer-lasting parts, including items for the pulverizers in the mills at Boundary Dam Power Station. Less frequent maintenance of those parts is required as a result.
This is the 15th Power of Business award presented since 1999. The award to SaskPower suppliers recognizes outstanding examples of the talent, innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit required to build successful enterprises here at home.
Located in Weyburn, Stewart Steel was incorporated in 1996. It has evolved from a repairs-oriented shop to a fabricator of steel parts for the agricultural and industrial marketplaces. Its workforce has doubled to 18 employees currently.
Since 1999, Stewart Steel has completed approximately $1.7 million worth of work for SaskPower.
"We are a growing company built on an attitude emphasizing team-work and customer success," Stewart Steel President, Brad Stewart said. "SaskPower is a big part of that."
SaskPower averages over 80 per cent of its purchases from local firms and over the last 22 years has purchased approximately $4.5 billion in goods and services from Saskatchewan suppliers.
