Premier Lorne Calvert today announced the appointment of Barbara MacLean as Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Recreation. Her appointment takes effect on January 17th, 2005.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, MacLean has worked for the Provincial government for 25 years. Her career in the provincial government started with Saskatchewan Culture and Recreation and has included work at the Departments of Health, Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training, and Community Resources and Employment. Most recently, Ms. MacLean served as Director of Senior Management Services in the office of the Deputy Minister to the Premier.

MacLean obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Master's of Public Administration from Queen's University.

"We are fortunate to have the benefit of Ms. MacLean's breadth of experience within the public service," Calvert said. "She has a very good understanding of the workings of government as well as the specific issues facing many Departments and Agencies. This knowledge will help Ms. MacLean to integrate the work of the Department of Culture, Youth and Recreation with other agencies within and outside of the provincial government."
