The Government of Saskatchewan announced today it will be contributing to the $9 million capital project proposed for Taylor Field."The provincial government contribution to the Taylor Field project will involve forgiving the $2.8 million loan owed to the province by the Saskatchewan Roughriders," Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline said. "This will allow the Riders to dedicate those funds to the Taylor Field project."
One of the conditions of the agreement is that the Club will launch an aggressive marketing plan to fundraise the remainder of funds needed to complete the project, which will also include increasing contributions from corporate sponsors and promoting the "Rider Shares" program. The City of Regina has already committed to $1.65 million in support.
"A project of this magnitude can only be accomplished in Saskatchewan with a number of great partners," Roughriders Chairman Garry Huntington said. "Through ticket sales and the facility fee, Rider Shares, corporate sponsors, the City of Regina and of course the Province of Saskatchewan, we will reach our goal of making Taylor Field the best place to play and watch a CFL football game. On behalf of everyone involved with the Roughriders we would like to thank the provincial government for moving forward with this great partnership."
"The investment in Taylor Field is a tribute to the Rider Pride Saskatchewan fans are known for across Canada," Cline said. "The Riders have been a social and cultural institution in our province for 95 years, and the investment in Taylor Field will make the stadium a better place for football players to play the game, and a better place for fans to cheer on our team."
