OPENING DOORS TO PROCUREMENT

Released on February 16, 2005

A one-day event being held today in Regina is aimed at making it easier for Saskatchewan suppliers to do business with public-sector agencies.

This will be the second time that Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation (SPMC), the organization responsible for procurement on behalf of provincial government departments and agencies, has hosted a Purchasers' Showcase.

"Today's event is a further example of how we are working to make it easier and less expensive for Saskatchewan suppliers to do business with government," Minister responsible for SPMC Deb Higgins said. "The showcase builds on initiatives stemming from the Action Plan for Procurement, including the SaskTenders Web site and implementation of a local preference policy."

The Purchasers' Showcase offers suppliers an opportunity to meet almost 30 public-sector agencies that want to buy goods and services from Saskatchewan suppliers. There will also be a series of workshops with topics including tips on putting together a successful tender.

"More than 80 per cent of the goods and services purchased by SPMC are provided by Saskatchewan suppliers," Higgins said. "Our goal is to increase that percentage, further building on the benefits to the Saskatchewan economy by keeping and creating jobs."

SPMC purchases roughly $100 million annually in goods and services on behalf of various government departments and agencies.
