The Carlton Trail Regional Economic Development Authority (REDA) will hold a meeting to help municipal governments spur economic development in their area December 2nd in Englefeld.The one-day seminar provides an opportunity for municipal administrators to discuss common issues, learn more about provincial government support programs that facilitate economic development and explore the concept of economic development at the municipal level.
"I commend the Carlton Trail REDA for organizing an event that enhances inter-municipal co-operation and dialogue," Deputy Premier and Rural Development Minister Clay Serby said. "This is a networking opportunity for municipalities to enhance relationships and increase capacity."
Carlton Trail REDA Economic Development Officer Edie Spagrud believes the event will show why it is important to take inventory of local and regional resources. Doing so will allow municipalities and Carlton Trail REDA to identify region strengths, determine how resources can be clustered, and assess gaps in services in order to build capacity and take advantages of potential economic development opportunities.
Administrators will also have a forum to discuss the municipality's role in community sustainability and vitality. Of particular importance will be identifying municipal by-laws and policies that help clear the path for local and regional economic development.
"Bringing communities together to discuss issues of concern is a priority for the Carlton Trail REDA," Spagrud said. "The discussions at this event will get municipal leaders thinking about economic development and let them know they are in the driver's seat when it comes to facilitating growth and wealth in rural communities."
The event begins at 10:00 a.m. at the New Horizon Centre.
