Construction on sections of Highway 13 near Cadillac, including the reconstruction of the concrete bridge over Notukeu Creek, is now underway.The work consists of re-grading and the construction of a surfacing structure on Highway 13 from the junction of Highway 4 at Cadillac to 12.7 km east of the junction. This work will complete the upgrading of Highway 13 from Highway 2 at Assiniboia to Highway 4 at Cadillac to a structural pavement designed for heavy truck traffic.
"These improvements to a major transportation corridor in the southwest are part of our commitment to maintain Saskatchewan's transportation infrastructure," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard Sonntag said. "Safe and efficient transportation is a key enabler of the economy and supports regional economic development as well as tourism."
Roadwork commenced on August 10th and is expected to be completed, weather permitting, by October 15th, with the exception of the second seal coat which is to be completed by July 15th, 2006. This project is being cost-shared with the federal government through the Prairie Grain Roads Program (PGRP) and is valued at approximately $4.1 million.
During construction, local traffic on the highway can expect delays and disruption to normal travel times due to temporary detours, fresh oil, or loose gravel. Remember to slow to 60 km/h when passing through the construction Orange Zone, and watch for construction workers, signs, and heavy equipment.
This year's Highways and Transportation budget provides $300 million for key initiatives that include completing 25 safety improvement projects, upgrading 147 km of thin membrane surface highways, and opening 57 km of newly twinned lanes on Highways 1 and 16 this construction season.
