SASKATCHEWAN CELEBRATES AGRICULTURE AND FOOD MONTH

Released on September 30, 2004

Saskatchewan will celebrate the importance of its agriculture and food industry during the month of October.

"The proclamation of October as Agriculture and Food Month in Saskatchewan gives us a chance to reflect on the tremendous impact the industry has on the lives of everyone in this province," Agriculture and Food Minister Mark Wartman said. "The last year has been an extremely difficult one for those involved in agriculture. That is why it is especially important for us to remember the fundamental role the industry has played, and continues to play, in this province."

Wartman made the proclamation during the launch of three new agriculture awareness initiatives by the Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development Saskatchewan (CARDS) Growing Saskatchewan Committee:

- the Growing Saskatchewan magazine;
- a Web site; and
- the Encore 2004 Saskatchewan Dinner Party to be held October 29th.

"It is very exciting to see a number of key organizations come together on the Growing Saskatchewan Committee, with the shared purpose of increasing understanding and appreciation of Saskatchewan's agriculture and food industry and its products," Wartman said.

Wartman encourages all Saskatchewan people to take the opportunity during the month to celebrate the province's agriculture and food industry.
