YOUR FUTURE IS HERE WEEK CELEBRATES YOUTH

Released on September 27, 2004

Saskatchewan has designated September 27th to October 1st as "Your Future Is Here" Week to recognize the contributions of young people to the province's economy and to encourage them to pursue their goals right here at home.

The week celebrates the "Your Future Is Here" program, an initiative of the province's Rotary Clubs aimed at youth retention. This grassroots initiative is designed to promote educational, entrepreneurial, and leadership opportunities in Saskatchewan. Program components include bursaries, business start-up funds and general youth promotion.

"The government and the private sector are working hard to engage the young people of this province to make their aspirations and dreams a reality," Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline said. "'Your Future Is Here' Week is the perfect time to feature the good things that are happening in Saskatchewan for youth. Rotary Clubs have always been a motivating force for change in the community and this is especially true with the development and implementation of this new Rotary program."

"The "Your Future Is Here" program is committed to developing scholarship and business start up funding for the province's talented, innovative, and industrious young people," Project Chair Don Somers said. "The driving force behind the initiative is our up-and-coming new generation of entrepreneurs and business people. We need to provide our youth with opportunities to realize their potential in Saskatchewan."

This week's celebration is highlighted by the "Your Future Is Here" Awards Gala on September 27th in Saskatoon. The gala recognizes and celebrates Saskatchewan's motivated youth, and also highlights the one-year anniversary and the success of the program.
