More than 1,900 Saskatchewan hunters could be getting a bonus this year. That's how many mule deer licences were left over after last spring's Big Game Draw. The licences are for antlerless mule deer, which is a doe or a young deer born in spring 2004.Effective September 15th until October 4th, Saskatchewan Environment will make the licences available to hunters who do not have a 2004 antlerless mule deer licence. The licences are being sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
After October 4th, hunters who already hold an antlerless mule deer licence for this year will be able to buy a second antlerless mule deer licence if there are extra licences left over. Most of the licences are valid for hunting zones in the south and along the west side of the province.
The licences cost $20 plus a $4 handling fee and are only available to Saskatchewan residents. Last year, 1775 licences were left over from the Big Game Draw and 942 of them were sold.
"This is a real opportunity for hunters to get out and try their hand at taking a mule deer this fall," Saskatchewan Environment Manager of Resource Allocation Dave Brewster said. "We expect a good response from hunters this year, especially since first licence holders will now be able to buy a second licence."
