A tentative agreement has been reached between the Government of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU) public service bargaining unit."I'm very pleased that negotiations have concluded with a tentative settlement without job action or disruption of services to the public," chair of the Cabinet Committee on Public Sector Compensation Joanne Crofford said.
The union represents a wide range of employees, including clerical staff, social workers, program administrators, correction workers, highway crews, provincial park staff, accountants, financial analysts, employment counselors, engineers, correspondence teachers, researchers and computer programmers. The agreement covers approximately 10,000 public service workers in eighteen departments.
"I congratulate both parties on the results of their efforts," Crofford said. "Many individuals gave an enormous amount of time and energy to ensure this settlement was achieved."
This agreement is subject to ratification. Both parties will be recommending
acceptance to their principals. Until the SGEU completes the ratification process with its membership, no details of the settlement will be released.
