The newly formed Saskatchewan Council for Admissions and Transfer will develop a system that will enable the transfer of course or program credits from one institution to another, and provide students with an on-line credit transfer guide.Innovations in the field of distance education and technology-enhanced learning are creating more possibilities for institutions to negotiate credit transfer agreements. A publicly-accessible database will be developed for students, advisors and faculty to access information about course equivalencies and program agreements between institutions.
"The creation of the Council and the on-line guide is an important step for Saskatchewan's learning sector," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said. "It will be easier for students to complete degrees, diplomas, and certificates from a number of institutions. Saskatchewan students will have the tools necessary to make better-informed decisions about educational planning, and ultimately, have more success."
"The Council is pleased to lead the development of a province-wide culture of transfer and integration within the learning sector," Council Chair Dr. Robin Fisher said. "We will work to create a learning environment that assists students to reach their educational goals and succeed in life."
The on-line guide will be a reference for students to determine if post-secondary credit is granted to acknowledge an earlier successful course completion. Council members agree that students should not be required to repeat previous learning experiences where competence has already been demonstrated.
