Students and job seekers today learned more about the career services available through the SaskNetWork web site at an event to celebrate Canada Career Week.
Saskatchewan Learning "teamed up" with the University of Regina to raise awareness of the programs and services available to support them in career development and finding employment in Saskatchewan. Canada Career Week is hosted annually by the Canada Career Consortium in partnership with provincial agencies. This year's theme is "Making Career Connections – Team Up."
"Keeping Saskatchewan students in the province is an important part of the government's priorities, and the big difference between many career web sites and the SaskNetWork site is that all our listings are for jobs here, in Saskatchewan only," Regina Wascana Plains MLA Doreen Hamilton said on behalf of Learning Minister Andrew Thomson. "At any given time, approximately 1,000 jobs available in Saskatchewan are advertised on the SaskNetWork web site and there are no fees to use any of the site services."
Students, invited guests, and representatives from Saskatchewan Learning and the University of Regina were given a demonstration of the new SaskNetWork web site. SaskNetWork is Saskatchewan's online gateway to information about careers, employment, labour market information and training opportunities in the province. Employers from across the province advertise available jobs and job seekers can post resumes as well as search the interactive job bank for work.
SaskNetWork also provides learners with information on post-secondary opportunities in Saskatchewan, with direct links to bursary and scholarship information, education and training institutions and their program opportunities. It offers extensive information for entrepreneurs on learning how to start a business, how to understand the labour market, tips for hiring and resum-writing tips for job seekers.
SaskNetWork is co-managed by Saskatchewan Learning and Community Resources and Employment, and is supported by an advisory group. For more information, visit www.sasknetwork.ca.
