NEWLY RENOVATED AND EXPANDED LAMPMAN SCHOOL OFFICIALLY OPENS ITS DOORS

Released on November 1, 2004

Learning Minister Andrew Thomson joined residents of Lampman and surrounding area today to help celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated and expanded Lampman School.

Saskatchewan Learning contributed $1 million to the approximate $4.35 million project, which was cost-shared with the Estevan Rural School Division. The project has transformed the old high school building into a kindergarten to grade-twelve facility that will serve over 200 students this year.

"When we invest in capital projects for education we are investing in our students and in the future of Saskatchewan," Thomson said. "The government's contribution to this project demonstrates our commitment to education and to making our province ready for the next generation."

"We were extremely pleased to get approval for the Lampman project," Board Chair Garry Hammett said. "This project has allowed us to completely renovate the old high school building and combine the elementary and high school together in one, state-of-the-art facility. Students and staff are pleased to be together in the new facility and will benefit from expanded resources and access to improved technology. The project has also improved many operational issues, such as air quality, bus access and staff and student parking."

"We understand that a school needs to grow along with a community and now Lampman has a modern, well-equipped facility to help students reach their potential," Thomson said. "I commend and thank all those whose vision and hard work have made the new Lampman School a reality."
