Two new appointments have been made to the Saskatchewan Minimum Wage Board. John Yeo of Moosomin, a member of the board since 2000, has been appointed to fill the vacant position of board chairperson. Luisa Graybiel of Regina will join Carol Cisecki of Saskatoon, Clarke Curtis of Humboldt and Daniel Wirl of Saskatoon as board members.The board advises the provincial government on issues such as the maximum amounts employers can deduct for room and board, the minimum age of employment, the minimum pay required for an employee who is called in to work, the maximum length of a work shift, paid transportation home for employees who get off work between 12:30 and 7:00 a.m., as well as the appropriate minimum wage.
"Mr. Yeo brings a wealth of experience as a member of the board to his new position as chairperson," Minister Responsible for the Minimum Wage Board Deb Higgins said. "Ms. Graybiel's background as a successful businesswoman will help maintain the board's tradition of providing timely and useful advice to the provincial government."
The Minimum Wage Board is equally representative of business and labour with an independent chair. At least two members of the board must be women. The board sets its own agenda and determines its own schedule for meetings. The appointment of a new chairperson will allow the board to continue with its work.
