Not many things in life are free, but the weekend of July 10th and 11th is Saskatchewan's annual Free Fishing Weekend. That means anyone, including people from outside the province, can fish in Saskatchewan without having to buy a licence."Saskatchewan's sport fishery is world class," Environment Minister David Forbes said. "Free Fishing Weekend is a good time to try your luck fishing in one of our wonderful lakes and rivers and to introduce new anglers to one of the province's most popular outdoor activities. It's also a time for us to recognize the importance of our fish and aquatic resources."
On average, more than 250,000 people fish in Saskatchewan each year, including more than 35,000 out-of-province anglers.
If you plan to take advantage of Free Fishing Weekend, please remember that although you don't need a licence, all other fishing regulations - including possession limits and reduced limits on some lakes and rivers - remain in effect. Free Fishing Weekend does not apply in national parks and a licence is required if you plan to transport fish out of the province. Anyone fishing on Lac La Ronge must have a free endorsement, available from local merchants. This endorsement helps monitor the number of anglers using the lake.

Free Fishing Weekend coincides with the beginning of Saskatchewan's Parks Week, July 11th-17th giving people another excellent reason to visit one of our many provincial parks.
