Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to 25 people in Saskatoon today."It is most fitting that we formally recognize the tremendous contributions of the courageous men and women who make our lives more safe and secure," Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock said. "We are truly honoured to have Her Royal Highness bestow the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal on today's recipients."
The Medal recognizes individuals who have 25 cumulative years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property. This can be in either a volunteer or a full-time capacity.
Recipients of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the ceremony today include:
- RCMP members from Saskatoon, Radisson and Regina;
- municipal police from Saskatoon and Corman Park;
- fire protection personnel from Regina and Saskatoon;
- Correctional Service of Canada staff from Saskatoon;
- Corrections and Public Safety staff from Saskatoon and Prince Albert;
- Saskatchewan Environment personnel from LaRonge and Beauval;
- a Customs Superintendent from Estevan;
- a Highways and Transportation Manager from Regina;
- Canadian Forces staff from Saskatoon; and
- an Emergency Medical Technician from St. Walburg.
The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was announced by Premier Lorne Calvert in 2002. The Medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
