Applications are being accepted for the Aboriginal Management and Professional Internship Program, which provides Aboriginal university graduates with experience working in the Saskatchewan public service.Now in its fourth year, the internship program provides successful applicants with two-year term positions complete with salary and benefits. Aboriginal graduates who have received their degree in the last five years are encouraged to apply.
"This program provides interns with an opportunity to supplement their education with valuable professional experience," Minister Responsible for the Public Service Commission Pat Atkinson said. "The result is that interns get a jump-start to their careers and will be better equipped to apply for future job openings."
The program provides interns with a strong foundation for future careers in the provincial public service. By working with the growing Aboriginal population, the Government can ensure the public service better reflects Saskatchewan's diverse population and provides the services Saskatchewan people need.
Current interns are employed in various departments throughout government. Through rotating job assignments and learning opportunities, they are involved in areas such as policy development, program delivery, human resources, communications, budget, finance, and strategic planning.
Application forms and other information about the program are available on the Public Service Commission's Web site at http://www.careers.gov.sk.ca. Forms are also available at universities, band offices, SIAST campuses, regional colleges, Aboriginal employment centres, and Canada-Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services locations throughout the province.
The deadline for applications is February 27th, 2004.
