PREMIER ANNOUNCES ROYAL VISIT IN 2004

Saskatchewan will once again be welcoming a member of the Royal Family for a visit. Premier Lorne Calvert announced today that Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal will visit the province in 2004.

The visit of the Princess Royal will occur from June 4th to 7th. The main purpose of the visit is to mark the 60th anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France on June 6th, 1944. The Princess is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regina Rifles, one of the first Canadian units to land on the Normandy beaches. Other engagements of Her Royal Highness will be announced at a later date.

"I am delighted that Princess Anne will visit Saskatchewan," Calvert said. "I know the people of our province are equally pleased to welcome the Princess Royal."

The Princess Royal is the second child and only daughter of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Along with her position of Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Regina Rifles, Her Royal Highness is actively involved in the Save the Children Fund, of which she has been President since 1970. This association and her love of equestrian sports have been the starting point for the development of a very wide range of charitable appointments, to which she devotes a large part of her working life.

The Princess Royal visited Saskatchewan for the first time in 1982.
