NEW STORE IMPROVES SERVICE FOR GRAVELBOURG CUSTOMERS

Released on January 6, 2004

The Town of Gravelbourg's strategy to revitalize its downtown with a unique European theme has received a boost with the opening of a new liquor store.

Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) Eric Cline and representatives from the Town of Gravelbourg cut the ribbon today to officially open the store located at 616 Main Street.

"This new store improves service for our customers," Cline said. "It offers a modern, more spacious shopping environment with improved selection."

The location of the new $800,000 store was agreed upon following discussions between SLGA and the Town of Gravelbourg. SLGA wanted to ensure the location complemented the Town's Touch of Europe theme. The building was designed in the Italian Renaissance style to be consistent with the European architectural theme adopted by the Town of Gravelbourg for its Main Street.

"This new store represents an important partnership between government and the Town of Gravelbourg," Cline said. "Government wanted to be certain that its capital investment would be good for business and also meet the development goals of the community."

"The development of this store is a positive business initiative for our community," Gravelbourg Mayor Henri Lepage said. "It fits nicely with our goals to give Gravelbourg a Touch of Europe on the prairies."

The new store has replaced the former SLGA store located at 304 Main Street with 3,600 square feet of expanded modern retail space, 150 additional products, improved access and more parking for customers. The old store is now closed and all staff have moved to the new location, which will maintain the same hours of operation: 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday to Saturday.
