Released on February 25, 2004

Premier Calvert announced today that Clay Serby will be stepping aside as Minister of Agriculture to undergo treatment for a serious cancer. Serby will continue as Deputy Premier during his treatment.

Mark Wartman has been named Minister of Agriculture. Maynard Sonntag takes over the Highways and Transportation portfolio, and will also continue on as Minister of Aboriginal Affairs.

The changes are effective immediately.

"This is very difficult news," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "Clay is a good friend and a close colleague, and his health is our foremost concern. He is in our thoughts and prayers."
