STC BUSES TO SPORT CENTENNIAL LOGO

Released on December 8, 2004

The Saskatchewan Transportation Company today announced it will be putting decals of the Centennial logo on all of its coaches and trailers during 2005.

Minister responsible for STC Maynard Sonntag announced that the decal will be seen on all of STC's 48 coaches, ranging in size from 15-seat vans to 55-seat buses, and all 24 freight trailers in the centennial year.

"I see these as traveling billboards, which will be seen on the 5.2 million highway kilometres STC travels in Saskatchewan each year," Sonntag said. "In addition, because STC is the official transportation for the sports teams of both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina, it will be taking our centennial message throughout Western Canada.

"The Government is urging all of its departments, agencies and Crowns to take on projects to promote the Centennial year, and I am pleased that STC has chosen to do this. It will be extra visibility to remind people, all year round, why we are celebrating in 2005," he said.

Saskatchewan Centennial 2005 Chair Glenn Hagel, said the logo on the buses is a great tool to tell the story of Saskatchewan's Centennial.

"This really takes our message on the road," Hagel said. "It takes our celebration and our pride onto the streets of the 276 communities where STC provides services – and onto the highways and byways of Saskatchewan."

STC President and CEO Ray Clayton said the total cost of decaling all the equipment will be in the range of $10,000, once it is completed. He said the majority of the work will take place before the end of 2004.

"STC has been serving the people of this province for almost 60 years now, and we want to do our part to celebrate this special year," Clayton said.

Each year, the bus company serves 276 Saskatchewan communities, carries about 260,000 passengers, and delivers freight to 205 rural agencies throughout the province.
