Two Saskatchewan students have been awarded full scholarships to attend the world-renowned International Baccalaureate Program at Lester B. Pearson United World College in British Columbia.
Francis (Josh) Grehan from Carlton Comprehensive High School in Prince Albert has received the annual provincial scholarship and will begin the two-year program this fall. The scholarship, jointly sponsored by the college and Saskatchewan Learning, is worth $59,000.
Mika Rai Carrière from Charlebois School in Cumberland House has received the biennial northern scholarship and will also begin the two-year program this fall. Cameco Corporation, Cogema Resources Inc., Mudjatik Thyssen Mining Joint Venture and Northern Resource Trucking privately fund this scholarship. Carrière is the third and final recipient of the northern scholarship, which was established for a six-year period.
"The International Baccalaureate Program at Lester B. Pearson College is an exceptional program that gives students the opportunity to excel academically, meet students and teachers from around the world, and promote international understanding and co-operation," Learning Minister Andrew Thomson said. "These exemplary students will be ambassadors for our province during their term at the college and I encourage them to take every advantage of these well-deserved awards."
Pearson College is one of ten United World Colleges established throughout the world. Located near Victoria, British Columbia, the college creates a dynamic international community where 200 young people from over 80 countries live, study and serve the community together. All students attend on full scholarship.
