The government is moving ahead with plans for a new integrated health care centre in Preeceville, as part of The Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care launched in December 2001.Health Minister John Nilson announced the province is providing $700,000 to plan for a new integrated health care centre in Preeceville that will consolidate the delivery of programs and services.
The existing Preeceville Hospital will be renovated and expanded to include both long-term care and acute care beds. The renovations will also accommodate a range of community programs and services, including home care, public health and physiotherapy.
"The new facility builds on the government's commitment in The Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care to improve the quality of health services and access to care for all Saskatchewan residents," Health Minister John Nilson said. "Once completed, the new facility will improve the quality of health care by achieving greater operating efficiencies and coordinating the delivery of services under one roof."
Saskatchewan Health will work closely with the Sunrise Regional Health Authority to finalize the scope, cost and design of the project.
Sunrise Regional Health Authority Board Chair Ben Weber said this financial commitment from the Government of Saskatchewan is a great step forward for the people in the region.
"The residents of Preeceville and area have been extremely supportive of the proposed new integrated health care facility," Weber said. "With the commitment to move ahead with planning the local community now has a clearer vision of how their health care needs will be met in the years ahead."
The provincial government will provide funding for 65 per cent of the approved project cost. The remaining funding will be raised locally. Facilities of this type typically cost about $6 million.
Saskatchewan Health is investing $61 million in capital projects over the next two years.
