SASKWATER AGREEMENT WITH WHITE CITY

Released on October 7, 2003

SaskWater and White City have announced a new partnership agreement that will see SaskWater purchase the town's water treatment plant and other facilities for $760,000. SaskWater will invest an additional $340,000 in the water system this year and will establish a regional office in White City.

"This investment in White City puts SaskWater in a good position to provide services to other communities in this growing area east of Regina," Minister Responsible for SaskWater Ron Osika said. "For communities that are looking for professional expertise, new solutions and financing options, SaskWater can be the answer."

"We think this partnership is the way of the future for water services in smaller, growing communities," White City Mayor Rob Mitchelson said. "Our water treatment plant is in good shape, but it requires substantial investment to meet new regulations and new capacity requirements. SaskWater will take care of that. They integrate water supply, water management and wastewater management and provide improved service all-around. With this partnership and the efficiencies it creates we will be better able to manage utility rates for our residents."

SaskWater assumes operation of the White City treatment plant on November 1st, 2003 and will provide on-going Total Quality Water Management for the 1,000 person community.
