Resurfacing 11.2 km of Highway 2 south of Imperial is complete."This resurfacing is part of our commitment to building better highways," Highways and Transportation Minister Mark Wartman said. "This project has helped revitalize Highway 2, improving an important route for motorists in the central part of the province."
The $1 million resurfacing project focused on sections from approximately 15 km south of Imperial to 1.5 km north of Imperial. Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon was the contractor on the project.
"In recent years, Highway 2 has experienced an increase in truck traffic, leading to wear and tear on the highway surface," Wartman said. "Maintaining our investment in pavements is a priority. The department is working hard to fix roads across the province to enhance trade and improve driver safety, demonstrating once again that transportation is a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan as we build towards our wide open future."
The government has committed $296.2 million to building better highways in 2003-2004. More than 700 km of highways will be reconstructed and paved this year.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and drive safely through the Orange Zone and to also watch for construction signs and heavy equipment during this season of heavy road construction.
