The government will proceed with Legislation in spring 2004 to establish a Prince Albert Riverfront Authority."Prince Albert's economy continues to grow, which makes it the perfect time for us to develop this beautiful riverfront," Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Eldon Lautermilch said, on behalf of Environment Minister Buckley Belanger. "Saskatchewan people care deeply about our urban parks and our green spaces, as they remain a focal point for community activity."
Prince Albert River Park is a 500-hectare park, located along the North Saskatchewan and Spruce Rivers, which provides recreational opportunities, and is home to a variety of plant and animal life. Generally an urban park authority is a separate, independent, self-governing agency with the power to plan, hire staff and enter into agreements.
Government officials have been directed to draft legislation to establish a Riverfront Authority in consultation with the community of Prince Albert. Consultation with the community will be undertaken to help establish the Authority's roles and responsibilities and ensure support for the Authority.
