NEW SCHOOLPLUS WEBSITE

Released on October 6, 2003

The provincial government launched a new Virtual SchoolPLUS website today as part of Education Week activities. The new site can be found at http://www.schoolplus.gov.sk.ca/.

"By creating this innovative web site we are providing children, youth, families, community-based organizations, teachers and community workers as well as others, an overview and access into the world of SchoolPLUS," Legislative Secretary for SchoolPLUS and Saskatoon Idylwyld MLA David Forbes said.

The objective of SchoolPLUS is to give Saskatchewan children and youth what they need to be successful in school and in life. It focuses on schools as centres of learning and support. For SchoolPLUS to be successful, schools need to serve two functions: to educate children and youth and to provide support services to children, youth and their families.

The web site is the entry point to SchoolPLUS activities. It provides links and information regarding a broad range of programs and services supporting Saskatchewan's families as well as information regarding the recently announced Community-Teacher Engagement Fund.

"With an extensive investment in CommunityNet coupled with our rich internet experience, it is appropriate that we launch this new website during Education Week. In keeping with this year's Education Week theme, Together We Are Better, we are indeed better through the sharing of community resources on this website," Forbes said.
