IMPROVING SASKATCHEWAN SCHOOLS

Released on October 6, 2003

Saskatchewan students and communities are the major beneficiaries of upgrades to schools throughout Saskatchewan. The provincial government is investing $4.2 million to improve the learning environment in 34 Saskatchewan schools. With these projects, the total commitment by government to K-12 capital projects announced so far this fall is over $30 million.

"We are investing in schools, in students and in the future of Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Judy Junor said. "As part of our long-term K-12 capital strategy that allows appropriate lead time for school divisions to plan, these 2004-05 block funding projects demonstrate our continued commitment to work with school divisions to provide quality education for our students."

The projects announced today include improvements such as roof replacement and restoration, air handling system upgrades, renovations and additions.

"These school improvement projects are part of the government's commitment to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students," Junor said. "Investing in education enriches our communities and ensures a wide open future for Saskatchewan students."
