Education Week 2003, Together We Are Better!, was launched today with an event at the University of Saskatchewan, focusing on professional health careers in Saskatchewan.Learning Minister Judy Junor and Health Minister John Nilson joined together to officially kick-off Education Week in Saskatchewan by highlighting high-quality opportunities for health care professional training and careers in Saskatchewan.
Saskatoon high school students in attendance also heard from guest speaker Anita Elsaesser, a Prince Albert nursing degree program student who encouraged students "to never lose sight of their dreams. Work hard and you will succeed, as anything is possible if you truly want it!"
"The government is committed to ensuring that our health sciences professionals are trained in a top-quality environment," Learning Minister Judy Junor said. "We continually invest in our health sciences education programs through diverse academic training, exciting research centres, and the finest facilities. Saskatchewan people benefit when our health sciences professionals receive their training right here in our province."
"The education of more health care providers is a key element of our retention and recruitment strategy, as outlined in the Action Plan for Saskatchewan Health Care," Health Minister John Nilson said. "Our health system requires strong health sciences education programs to meet the need for health services, academic training and research."
"The Government of Saskatchewan is committed to working together to provide all Saskatchewan's children, youth and adults with a high-quality education that will help them reach their potential and enable them to lead the way into the future," Junor said.
Education Week 2003 is celebrated October 5th – 11th with various public activities in educational institutions throughout Saskatchewan that demonstrate the quality of our public education system.
