APPOINTMENTS TO SASKATCHEWAN HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

Ms. Vivian Janvier and Mr. Mike Bacon have been appointed to serve on the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission.

"The diverse knowledge, background and experiences of these two individuals will be invaluable to the Commission and benefit the people of this province," Justice Minister Eric Cline said. "I am positive they will each play a vital role in protecting the fundamental human rights of Saskatchewan citizens."

Janvier is employed by the La Loche Community Development Corporation and is the Director of the La Loche Friendship Centre. She is also involved in community organizations respecting justice and social development and is fluent in the Dene language.

Bacon graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts in 1991. He has since worked as an Administrative Assistant at Agriculture Canada and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Bacon has also held several positions with Canadian and Saskatchewan Wheelchair Sports Associations and is currently Vice-chairperson of the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association. He participates in a number of community organizations including the Canadian Paraplegics Association and the Saskatoon Special Interest Co-operatives Ltd.

The Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission was created in 1972. It promotes and protects individual dignity, fundamental freedoms and equal rights.
