Students attending Weyburn's St. Dominic Savio School can look forward to learning in a newer, brighter environment. The Government of Saskatchewan today announced approximately $1.4 million for renovations to St. Dominic School."St. Dominic School has served its students very well since it was built in 1955," Learning Minister Judy Junor said. "However our government is committed to keeping pace with the ever-changing needs of students and teachers and the time has come to ensure St. Dominic students have a more modern, well-equipped education facility."
The project will be implemented over four years, beginning with the planning and design phase. With the completion of the project, enhancements to the K-6 school will include a new school entrance; a new kindergarten room; more student washrooms; renovations to the resource room and administration area; heating and ventilation upgrades; and the addition of relocatable classrooms.
"St. Dominic Savio has not had a major upgrade since its initial construction, and the opportunity for our children to learn in a totally refurbished environment is exciting indeed," Board of Education Chair John Nikolejsin said.
"School capital projects are a priority for our government and the St. Dominic project is part of a long-term province-wide strategy," Junor said. "Above all, our government is focused on meeting the learning needs of all young people in Saskatchewan. Investment in education is key to a prosperous future for our children and our province."
