Team Saskatchewan is promoting the province at the largest manufacturing conference in North America, October 7th-10th in Toronto.
Measure Up for Success 2003 is presented jointly by the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters and the Association of Manufacturing Excellence in collaboration with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. The annual conference is devoted to increasing manufacturing competitiveness through sharing the world's best manufacturing practices.
Team Saskatchewan's mission to attract new investment includes a significant presence on the tradeshow floor as well as scheduled meetings with companies such as Babcock and Wilcox Canada, General Electric Aircraft Engines, and HSBC Bank Canada.
In addition, two Team Saskatchewan members have been invited to present their company's best practices to approximately 1,500 delegates. Cover-All Building Systems of Saskatoon and Brandt Engineered Products of Regina have both achieved impressive efficiencies in lean manufacturing - the practice of reducing waste and increasing productivity – and will share their experiences alongside some of the world's most renowned companies.
Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline says the conference is an excellent opportunity to showcase Saskatchewan's manufacturing industry, which is recognized internationally for best practices in processes, technology, innovation and sustainability, as well as the quality of its workforce.
"Saskatchewan offers significant advantages such as one of the lowest corporate income taxes for manufacturers and processors. We have a highly skilled and educated workforce and an abundance of power in numerous forms," Cline said. "We also have a reputation for being on the cutting edge of new manufacturing technologies and equipment."
Saskatchewan's manufacturing industry employs 30,000 people and its manufacturing shipments are valued at $7.2 billion annually - 72 per cent of which is exported.
