AMBASSADORS PROGRAM CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS, NEW MEMBERS

Released on October 3, 2003

The Saskatchewan Ambassadors program is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a new look and an expanded base of members to promote the province.

Former Saskatchewan residents will now join Saskatchewan business people and residents in promoting the province outside our borders.

"The Ambassadors program uses our best resource and sales force – our people," Industry and Resources Minister Eric Cline said. "The program is a wonderful opportunity for those who already know how beautiful, unique and exciting Saskatchewan is to share that with the world. We have already made valuable contacts and friendships through the last five years of the program."

Industry and Resources launched the program in 1998 with the goal of recruiting public and private sector members to promote Saskatchewan when doing business outside the province. Business people who enrolled received a kit of information materials, including fact sheets and investment attraction videos, plus advice on how to position the province as a good place to do business and invest. Since its inception, the program has grown to include 300 Ambassadors.

The revamped program not only has a new look but also a few new promotional tools, such as an international marketing video and CD-ROM that promote the Saskatchewan economy and key sectors. Several top Saskatchewan executives, who were interviewed for the video, share their views on what makes the province a competitive place to do business.

More than 200 Saskatchewan expatriates have signed up to help promote the province in the past two years through initiatives like the Premier's expatriates events in 2002 and the CFL Saskatchewan Roughrider away-game receptions this year. Industry and Resources will now provide expatriates with the information and tools they need to promote Saskatchewan, including a quarterly e-zine and the same information kits used by in-province Ambassadors.

"We want to provide Saskatchewan residents and expatriates from all walks of life with the tools they need to promote the province. We want to send the message that a wide range of people from fields such as tourism, culture, education, and science can make an important contribution in promoting the province to their contacts around the world," Cline said.

The Saskatchewan Ambassadors program also has a new Web site at www.saskambassadors.ca. For more information or to become a Saskatchewan Ambassador, visit the website or call 1-866-SASK-HAS (1-866-727-5427).
