Released on November 27, 2003
Judy Samuelson, Cabinet Secretary and Clerk of the Executive Council in the Saskatchewan government, and Glenda Yeates, Deputy Minister of Health, have been named to the list of Canada's 100 most powerful women.
This new award was developed under the leadership of the Women's Executive Network (WXN), Canada's leading association of women executives, and the Richard Ivey School of Business, at the University of Western Ontario, a global leader in business management education. An independent advisory board selected the recipients based on defined, measurable criteria.
Samuelson and Yeates will receive the award at a luncheon in Toronto on November 28th. Both are being honoured in the category of Public Sector Leaders, women who occupy the most senior position in a government department, ministry or university, municipality, hospital or regional health authority. Other award categories include Entrepreneurs, Trailblazers, and Corporate Executives.
"Judy Samuelson and Glenda Yeates are richly deserving of this prestigious award," Premier Lorne Calvert said. "I'd like to congratulate them on this major achievement."
"Judy has spent almost 30 years of her life contributing to government and the political process. She has excelled not only at the provincial level but also through her work in educating young people and international governments in the area of government processes and decision-making. I am pleased that she has been recognized for her commitment and dedication."
"Glenda has served for over 22 years in Saskatchewan's public service, rising through the ranks due to the competence, good judgement and leadership she has shown. I am pleased that her work on the provincial and national level has been recognized with this award."
Other individuals on the list of Canada's top 100 powerful women include such luminaries as Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, former journalist and Canadian Counsel General to New York Pamela Wallin, Auditor General of Canada Sheila Fraser, astronaut Roberta Bondar, Chief Justice of Canada Beverley McLachlin, and Shell Canada President and CEO Linda Cook.
