HONOURING SASKATCHEWAN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICE PERSONNEL

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock presented the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal to 35 recipients at the Prince Albert Collegiate Institute today. The medal recognizes individuals who have 25 cumulative years of exemplary service protecting the people of Saskatchewan or their property.

Recipients of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal at the ceremony today include emergency medical personnel from Prince Albert, Tisdale, Saskatoon and Melfort; RCMP members from Prince Albert, Kelvington and Creighton; municipal police from Prince Albert; fire protection personnel from Prince Albert, Humboldt, Creighton, and Waskesiu; Saskatchewan Environment Conservation Officers from Prince Albert, Melfort, La Ronge, Nipawin and Creighton; and a Canadian Forces Officer from Saskatoon.

This is the second ceremony held and presentations will continue throughout the province.

The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal was announced by Premier Lorne Calvert in 2002, on the anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, in New York and Washington. The medal is part of the Saskatchewan Honours Program that includes the Saskatchewan Order of Merit and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal. The provincial Office of Protocol and Honours administers the program in close co-operation with the Saskatchewan Police Commission, Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police, Saskatchewan Firefighters Association and other agencies whose personnel are eligible for the honour.
