MONTGOMERY SCHOOL CELEBRATES RENOVATIONS AND ADDITION

Released on May 30, 2003

Today students at Montgomery School in Saskatoon celebrated the official opening of their newly renovated school. The improvements include a new resource centre, a new gymnasium and new classrooms. The Saskatchewan Government contributed $1.1 million to this $2.8 million project, sharing the cost with the Saskatoon Public School Division.

"We are investing in schools, in students, and in the future of Saskatchewan," Learning Minister Judy Junor said at the official opening. "Montgomery School has served the community well for almost half a century, but the time had come to provide a more modern education facility."

Montgomery is a Kindergarten to grade 8 school with an enrolment of 196 students. This project created a new core space for the school. Two-thirds of the school is now brand new.

"We're very pleased to see this final stage completed to significantly improve the educational environment for our students in this community," Saskatoon School Division Board Chair Gordon Wyatt said. "This is an exciting day for everyone connected to the school."

"This project is part of the government's commitment to invest in modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Saskatchewan students, ensuring our future is wide open," Junor added.
