SASKATCHEWAN VOLUNTEERS HONOURED

Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock today presented the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal to seven citizens at the Legislative Building in Regina. The Medal recognizes outstanding volunteer service or exceptional community involvement.

This year's recipients are:

• B. Norman Beach of Swift Current, who has volunteered in numerous
community and church activities, recently volunteering thousands of hours with the Southwest Crisis Services donation program;

• Dave Cameron of Lumsden, a long time participant in community, business and recreational activities as well as one of the original organizers of the Lumsden Duck Derby;

• Kelly Chase of Porcupine Plain, who was recognized for his charity work by the National Hockey League in 1998 with the King Clancy Award;

• Louise Fisher of Tisdale, a long-time educator, founder and co-ordinator of the Tisdale Author's Event held during the National Book Week Festival;

• Jackie Groat of Saskatoon, founder and full-time volunteer of the Voyageur Club of Saskatoon Inc., establishing programs and activities for the continued independence of disadvantaged people;

• Renu Kapoor of Regina, a social worker, who has helped Regina fundraise for numerous local and international charities; and

• Marie Léa Mathers-Ross of Prince Albert, who is well known for her volunteerism with the Boy Scouts of Canada.

The recipients receive a medal, certificate and lapel pin, and may use the initials SVM after their name.

Including this year's recipients, 64 Saskatchewan citizens have been awarded the Volunteer Medal since its inception in 1995.
