NEW LIQUOR STORE FOR DOWNTOWN YORKTON

Released on March 27, 2003

A new liquor store will be built in Yorkton by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, as part of the city's plan for revitalizing its downtown core.

Deputy Premier and Yorkton MLA Clay Serby and Minister Responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) Ron Osika, today announced that SLGA will construct a new store at the corner of Broadway Street and Third Avenue in Yorkton. This site will provide a more convenient location for Yorkton and area residents and will support the city's development plans for its downtown core.

"The government is pleased to partner with the City of Yorkton in a venture that will improve service for our customers and provide an anchor for further development in the downtown area," Osika said.

Yorkton Mayor Phil DeVos said the new store will help attract future downtown development.

"The new store will be a major attraction for developers and other potential business tenants considering downtown development," DeVos said. "This is a positive business initiative for the people of Yorkton."

The new store will replace the one located at 44 Dracup Avenue N. with an expanded modern retail space that provides improved access, greater product selection and more parking for customers. Tenders for construction of the new liquor store will be issued within the next few weeks.
