FORAGE RAINFALL INSURANCE DEADLINE APPROACHING

Released on March 24, 2003

Forage producers have until March 31st to take advantage of the Forage Rainfall Insurance Program.

"Over the past two years, Crop Insurance has expanded and improved the Forage Rainfall Insurance Program to support a growing livestock industry," Deputy Premier and Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization Minister Clay Serby said. "This year's program offers good value to producers."

Based on producer feedback last year, the following changes have been made to the 2003 Forage Rainfall Insurance Program:

- More weather stations have been added;
- Coverage per acre will reflect forage productivity by soil zone;
- Weather stations must be selected within 100 kilometres of the insured land; and
- Liability caps on weather stations, or enrolment restrictions, have been removed.

The deadline to enroll or make changes to the 2003 Forage Rainfall Insurance Program is March 31st. Information for all other crop insurance programs will be mailed to producers in April.

Forage Rainfall Insurance Program details are available at all customer service offices and on-line at www.saskcropinsurance.com.
