Released on March 21, 2003
Culture, Youth, and Recreation Minister Joanne Crofford today recognized March 21st as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
"In marking this day, we join with nations across the globe to work towards a society free from all forms of racism and discrimination," Crofford said. "I urge Saskatchewan people to respect and celebrate the cultural diversity of our province."
Equality is a fundamental Canadian value that is also reflected in Saskatchewan's provincial motto, "From many peoples strength."
Civic and community groups throughout Saskatchewan are helping to celebrate the ethnic and cultural diversity of this province with a wide variety of events, such as:
In Regina, Street Culture Kidz Project is presenting Festival Harmony, March 21st and 22nd;
In Saskatoon, the Saskatchewan Intercultural Association is presenting a series of discussions and workshops; and
The Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan together with its 35 member organizations will be marking the day.
