SASKPOWER SUPPORT FOR GOODSOIL INDUSTRIAL ARTS WORKSHOP

Released on June 23, 2003

SaskPower is making a financial contribution of $1,000 toward construction of the industrial arts workshop in the Goodsoil Community Centre.

"The construction of this new workshop will give students in Goodsoil and the surrounding area hands-on experience in carpentry, construction and design," Crown Investments Corporation Minister Maynard Sonntag said.

The Industrial Arts Workshop provides facilities for 25 students in Grade 7 and 8 to learn about carpentry, construction and design, as part of the local school's practical and applied arts program. Many of the participants are from surrounding rural areas. The Workshop is used by students approximately 5 hours/week.

"Our community is going to benefit greatly by having a place for students to continue to learn and apply skills they acquire in the Industrial Arts Workshop," Goodsoil Community Centre Board chair Ron Rosvold said. "We want to thank SaskPower and the other contributors for helping us with the renovations to the Centre Bay Project at the Community Centre."

"As Saskatchewan's electric utility and largest Crown corporation, SaskPower has a commitment to nurture and contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by the people of Saskatchewan. Each year, SaskPower provides approximately $1 million in annual support to hundreds of events across Saskatchewan, as well as select capital projects," Sonntag noted.

With this contribution by SaskPower, over 80 per cent of the funds needed to pay for the workshop have now been raised.
