Today, His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex visited the Saskatchewan Legislative Building for a public welcome and to unveil a newly created meeting room in the lower level of the building.Over the years this space has been used for a variety of purposes but with recent renovations, the new room reflects the architectural characteristics of the historic Legislative Building. The room incorporates historic features including the last original fireplace within the building, while at the same time providing a modern meeting space that equips users with access to Internet and video-conferencing equipment, making this boardroom unique within the Legislative Building.
"We are pleased that The Earl of Wessex has agreed to lend his name to the meeting room," Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation Ron Osika said. "This room is a wonderful example of the architecture and artistry that can be viewed throughout the Legislative Building."
The Saskatchewan Legislative Building was officially designated as a provincial historic site in 1978. Completed in 1912, the Legislature is one of Saskatchewan's most popular tourist destinations attracting more than 50,000 people per year.
