PROVINCE HELPS GIANT TIGER ROAR INTO SASKATCHEWAN

Released on June 18, 2003

The Government of Saskatchewan has helped the Giant Tiger Store chain establish a new store in Saskatchewan by helping connect people looking for work with jobs at the new store.

Saskatchewan Community Resources and Employment assistance came through the Canada-Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services Centre and included referring job seekers, collecting resumes, advertising for workers and providing space to assist Giant Tiger with interviewing potential employees.

"The Giant Tiger Store roared into Saskatchewan and the province assisted it with efforts to recruit over 80 employees to staff the new store," Community Resources and Employment Minister Glenn Hagel said.

"Saskatchewan is a great place to live, work and do business," Hagel added. "Saskatchewan Community Resources and Employment offers a variety of services as a toolkit to assist businesses, especially small and medium sized companies, who are looking to hire staff or establish new operations in Saskatchewan."

"We've had a good start in Regina and were able to put together a great staff by working with Saskatchewan Community Resources and Employment who connected us with people eager to join our team," Giant Tiger store Manager Gary Foulkes said.

Services available to employers through Canada-Saskatchewan Career and Employment Services Centres include an online job posting service, access to a resume pool, assistance in writing job advertisements and determining job requirements, and developing employee retention and recruitment strategies.

Giant Tiger, a Canadian discount store chain was established in 1961 in Ottawa and has grown to 115 locations in Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba. The new Giant Tiger Store in Regina is located at 2735 Avonhurst Drive in the Towers Mall Shopping Centre and opened on June 14th, 2003.
